Issued M47 Parka
Expect defects, including but not limited to: small holes, missing buttons, or damaged zippers.
This parka is an incredible piece of history and is an often-forgotten step in the evolution of US cold-weather adaptation. Identifiable by their waist belt slots, spacious pockets, and large brown buttons, these pieces are not unlike those used during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.Â
The History:Â
The cold and wet conditions of the Korean War necessitated ample use of cold weather gear. Today, many associate the M51 Fishtail Parka with the conflict, but it wouldn't actually reach the peninsula in force before the end of hostilities in 1953. For much of the war, it was the M47 Parka, or "overcoat, parka type, with pile liner," holding the line and enduring the conditions of Korea. It is longer and more substantial in the lower front at the cost of being less maneuverable than its successor.Â
